Jefferson mayor Matt Gordon on Friday proclaimed a state of emergency or public danger in the city of Jefferson due to the threat of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and used his authority as mayor to close to the public all city-owned facilities until further notice.
All recreation programming shall be suspended until further notice. The declaration asks all members to the public “to avoid playground areas as they are closed… but trails and green spaces shall remain open.”
Shelter houses and restrooms at the parks are also closed.
Gordon also “strongly discourages” gatherings of 10 or more people until further notice.
The declaration specifies that the Jefferson police department shall enforce it and that a violation will be a simple misdemeanor.
”This proclamation of emergency and public danger is part of an ongoing response of the city of Jefferson to protect public health and safety and may be modified or superseded with more restrictive proclamations at any time as circumstances warrant,” the proclamation ends.
The proclamation included information that the city council meeting for a public hearing on the 2020-21 budget and adoption of the budget will be held April 14.
